Unit 7: meditative practices this week

For this week i concentrated on a nidra medition practice. this type of meditation involves you being in a quite place, perferably dark, soft music and lying down perfered. It involves clearing the mind and allowing the music to totally relax your muscles and your mind. I did this type meditation because i am a fitness competitor geeting ready to go on stage saturday and a lot of the stress that goes with competeiing was really gettiing to me this week and I needed the time to clear my mind and focus on what was really important and that was why am I doing this competition and what was my goal. this allowed me to focus on no-one else but me. It really helped my mind to come to a very relazed state and were ever the mind goes the body follows. Meditation has fostered an increase in both my psychological and spiritual wellness because it teaches you to deal with the real inner you and see a bigger picture than what you see when stressed.

When it comes to the saying One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself. I will use an example to explain this theory or saying. As a cometitor, I cannot train another competitor on required strenght moves, if I have no knowledge of them or have never used them. I believe in the saying how can you teach someone to be a winner if you have never in yourlife been one yourself. I believe this applies to health and wellness in that we are suppose to push healthy behavior habits and if weare overweight, smoke all the time, and is always ill, how can we try to encourage others to adopt healthy haits and behaviors if we are looking like we can't walk a step without getting out of breath, or we are obese which is a sure sign of bad eating habits.I am not sure whether i believe whether we have an obligation to our clients to develop psychological development or not, but spiritual development i believe that's an individuals choice.

  1. Hello Fitpam, Nidra sounds interesting but I am a very visual person and I find that music even softly played is more of a distraction for me, I find myself more focused on the words, then trying to determine what the singer is trying to say. I come from a large family, where the house was always full and noisy, so now for me give me total silence and I am in heaven, that's why the cd is so good for me, I just close my eyes and listen to the words and do as he says,I love that you are a competitor, that takes some serious committment, horray for strong girls LOL. You are right about to teach you must know more than what has been written in a book, no one wants to take advice from someone who cannot perform the action themselves. I am a smoker so I would not attempt to tell someone else how to quit smoking, as I have not acheived success in that area myself. Like you I believe you must walk the walk.
